Class notes - introductory multiverse theory
Prof- Dr.Marayas. Winter court. First semester will focus on the base qualities that universes have as well as the ecological cycles these impose on courts.
Lecture 2x/week, office hours 3x/week, TA is the cute troll with the green horns but i didnt catch their name :( homework due end of each week for 30% of grade, discussion boards 15% of grade, attendance 15%, final essay 15%, final calculations test 15%. So two finals??? Fuck
Oh fuk who assigns reading for the first day of class aaaaaaa dont call on me i didnt know D:
every possible world exists but they're not all accessible.
they can interact in ways that are "unhealthy" for one reality.
health = its life expectancy
many universes are accessible and traversable.
many universes have different base properties irt magic/tech/science/etc
the sprawl is the remnants of degraded realities, it is difficult to navigate and changes a lot and damages the places that it latches onto.
every universe has:
TA is blowing bubbles as if we haven't all heard the bubble metaphor a million times already
To be fair they’re very good at making very big bubbles
For bubbles:
b=bubble wall thickness
s=soap volume
p=outside air pressure
m=air molecules
h=heat
b=sp/mh
Ratio between outside pressure and inside pressure determines size of bubble and thus thickness of soap film over bubble
Universe base stats:
All standardized to a 1-5 scale
Magical Potential:
Mana flow. Amount of magic passing through the world, and its current/flow rate. Keeps a universe inflated (???)
Mor.Con:
Durability of universe. Rigidity of internal logic. Keeps a universe together externally
Size:
How much space is in there (in miles, approximately) but also how much matter there is. Items. Energy (not life energy, or magic. Like heat and electricity? radiation?)
Life energy:
They never mentioned this in gradeschool demos wtf
Living energy. Sentience, sapience. Plants have a little. We have a lot. Gonna spend min 1 whole week on this later so dont stress too much. More complex social structures and relationships also increase this. Big impact on Reality value.
Binds a world together internally.
Reality:
Derived value. How easy it is to punch into a world.
For 4d universes (like all of ours)
Oh shit this derivation is Long im just gonna copy it out of the book later
I might need to go to office hours for this one
Court lifecycle overview:
Starts as normal world
S value Morph.Con degrades (over eons)- how??
S goes down so B reality goes down
Size M goes down to compensate, shooting B back up
Influence of H Life and P Magic go up
World shrinks to untenable sizes, world either becomes a parasitic court or implodes
Parasitic world finds suitable host world (how??)
Inserts itself through membrane into world interior
Court comes in with low MorphCon. Gets inside host world. Boundaries fuse- soap bubble metaphor, it’s one soapy fluid, shared materia.
MorCon values are averaged (?) (complicated math)
Court breaks out again with new higher MorCon value. Might have a harder time reconnecting for a while, but it’ll sustain the world for a bit and once MC gets low enough that they need to do this again, they can.
This is reality parasitism. Theoretically an empty world could do this on its own by raw luck.
Most courts have additional ingrained parasitism to siphon off P Life value as well, and use different base reality parasitism dynamics (trends, not definitions).
Spring court:
bubbly. hot. performance. parties. colorful.
enchanting. no physical danger. addictive?
-stealing attention
summer court:
goblins. funny lil guys. artifice.
theft. more mechanical. crafty. games. gambles.
-stealing effort
fall court:
predators. monsters that will attack you. hunters.
more desperate. less real?
-stealing life force/vitality/youth/sanity.
winter court:
masks. playing with identity. aloof. harder to read.
poison. entrapment. more royal court dynamics. hierarchical. ordered.
-stealing people/emotions. leave you depressed.
Together, stolen MC and Energy let world rebalance up to higher Size or just last longer before needing to do that again. Need to carefully balance these 4 values while inside a world to keep court stable and stop it from imploding/exploding/dissolving into host world permanently.
This happens in 3rd World a lot. Worlds end up adopting the fall approach whether they want to or not. Get stuck. Hence fae wilds.
Homework: calculate B values for spire’s worlds + sprawl + theoretical max/min
This is gonna be a hard semester x.x
